I don’t know, I’ve only been at this for a short time.
By short time i mean five years.
By at this i mean I read a few each morning and have tried writing two, now three, myself.
I have no formal training, so I breeze past words like stanza, structuralism, and synecdoche, but I do know what alliteration is and I like using it.
But here’s what I think feel poetry is:
A reach for the ineffable
A reach for the profone
A description of the ineffable with the profane
A better attempt at telling the truth
A more honest admission that I don’t know the truth
A middle finger to grammar
A space for my dyslexia to stretch it’s arms and make mistakes that turn into surprises
A space for stifled expressions to explore
A space
The stewardship of words
Prayers
Therapy
Attention paid to life
Alchemy whereby the mundane becomes transcendent
A gestalt of phonemes that become words that become ideas that become vicarious understanding
That become.
I’ll have more to say in another five years.
